Kydones, Prochoros

Kydones, Prochoros
   Younger brother of Demetrios Kydones (q.v.); opponent of Palamism (q.v.). He was a monk at the Great Lavra on Mount Athos (qq.v.) until he was expelled from the monastery in 1367 and condemned for his views in Constantinople (q.v.) the following year. His historical legacy lies chiefly in his Greek translation of sections of the Summa theologica of Thomas Aquinas (q.v.), and in his use ofAquinas's arguments to combat Palamism.
